DIY: Decoupage with Peacock Feathers

Wandering around the craft store feeling unispired, my crafty cousin suggested I try decoupaging with peacock feathers. "Can you do that?", I thought... Well apparently you can! If you want to give it a try for yourself, you'll need the following:

Canvas or wood block
Acrylic paint for the background
White glue or Modgepodge (I used white glue)
Foam paint brush
Peacock Feathers
Spray Polyurethane

Process:
1. Paint the canvas with a color that compliments the feathers. I chose a dark brown. Let dry.

2. Spread a thin coat of glue or modgepodge in the area you are going to attach the feathers.

3. Gently press the feathers into place, wrapping them around the edges of the canvas for an interesting effect.

4. Gently dab glue on top of the feathers. Repeat and let dry.
5. Spray with a coat of polyurethane to seal. Enjoy!

Love it... I love peacock feathers I have loved peacocks and peacock feathers since I was a little girl and my Grandpa Leo used to raise them and he would always give me feathers to take home... :)

Do I have to use polyurethrane or can I skip that and leave it, will the painting be fine without it? If not what could I use that is fairly inexpensive as a subsitute?

I don't leave many remarks, however i did a few searching and wound up here "DIY: Decoupage with Peacock Feathers". And I actually do have 2 questions for you if you don't
mind. Could it be simply me or does it give
the impression like a few of the remarks
come across as if they are left by brain dead visitors?
:-P And, if you are posting on other places, I would

I have recently come across my passion for peacock feathers and acrylic painting and after seeing your beautiful canvas I was dying to try this. With my version I painted a large rectangle canvas Matt black the got six very small canvases and painted each one a differant colour mixed with an iridescent medium to make it pearlescent then on each canvas I glues a single peacock eye feather then glued the small canvases in a straight line down the centre of the large black canvas. I hope you post more of your ideas I think your very creative :)

Love, love, love this project. I have a question though. I am working with a collage of feathers. I noticed on your project that the feathers overlapped which makes this stunning. How on earth did you get them to overlap naturally? Spray them with an adhesive? I would love to hear from you on this matter. Beautiful work !! Sorry to be anonymous, can't figure out how to show my profile. ladywadefisher@yahoo.com aka Cheryl
