Great, but I am afraid that all surrounding plants will be destroyed after your suggestion ;)
It's already a gift in itself. Placing the stem of most plants in water is a very decorative way to start a root system for later planting.
The raffia is perfect to replace plastic ribbons. it can be dyed to add colors.
